Last week in the English academy, we talked about the story of Thanksgiving Day, we watched YouTube video. We discussed the origin on Thanksgiving Day. Then I asked the students (primary and high school kids) what they are thankful about, it seems funny for some so I gave some example that we should be thankful for our country that we are not living in conflicting country and we don’t have to leave our countries for the sake of war or violence, we should be thankful that we have parents who work hard to take care of us etc. And finally the homework was to thank their parents mentioning what specifically the reason.
Yesterday we had reporting time, I had tears in my eyes the way these kids thanked their parents and the way parents have responded.
Few reactions: One father hugged his son and said thank you for being good son, another thanked his mom and then secretly prayed for his father whom hasn’t seen for years. One father was deeply moved that he bought a latest mobile phone for his daughter. This girl say “being thankful is very powerful”.
We talked about the “Power of being thankful” it makes strong family. And a strong family what we need!!!
If we want to build good society we need to cultivate the culture “that is thankful to The Giver of life and grateful to the people around us”.
